THE JOB
You will be working within the Engineering & Outage (E&O) Gas Rotating Equipment team to provide technical site support to the Gas generation portfolio supporting E&O, O&M and the outage function in OPD (Outage Planning & Delivery Team).
As part of a portfolio team, you provide end-to-end support to the asset within their area of discipline. Project and task allocation will be via the line management Senior Engineer, prioritizing their competence and resources to assets and projects, as prioritized by the E&O Gas management team.
Location will be agile, dependent on task or project.
You are responsible for ensuring the technical delivery of projects and tasks through defining how work is done, ensuring work is technically compliant, and solving technical problems.
FOCUS
You have responsibility for a range of Rotating Equipment (Steam Turbine, Gas Turbine) and related areas as follows:
• Steam Turbine & Gas turbine engineering, maintenance and repair activities, management of component level issues, Hot Gas Path Management, assessment of OEM recommendations / service bulletins, long term integrity assessments & re-lifing, vibration dynamics and diagnostics, failure mechanisms, specific knowledge/nuances of GE, GT26 & Siemens equipment
• Development and implementation of consistent engineering and maintenance strategies to deliver portfolio performance in line with individual asset strategies as set by Asset Management
• Management of OEM agreements / major service and refurbishment contracts
• Planning (outage scoping) and delivery of both minor and major outage works and the associated project management skills
• Technical officer / contract management / putting people to work skills to enable deliver
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Health, Safety and Wellbeing
Supporting all areas of Health Safety & Wellbeing, role modelling the right culture and behaviours. Operating within the expected standards and supporting initiatives to improve HS&W.
Supporting the wider Gas E&O targets and initiatives relating to health, safety, wellbeing and environment, including Mission Zero.
Technical Advice, Selection, & Delivery
Application of practical and theoretical knowledge to E&O projects, outage and maintenance workscopes. Responsible for applying the technical standards, adopting common solutions within their competence and developing the projects / tasks, with supporting risks assessments, method statements and quality control plans. Responsible for their advice into the maintenance schedule of the portfolio.
Technical and quality standards
Ensure Project / Tasks Technical Standards are maintained in line with agreed Tech Proc / LP / LMI and that Quality Standards are followed. Support a culture of Continuous Improvement and ensure Lessons Learnt are captured and acted upon.
PORTFOLIO APPROACH
The role is accountable to the portfolio assets, not a particular asset. Within the role, the engineer has accountability for development and application of their competence, to provide best techno-economic, timely delivery to the assets / E&O. Supports the Technical Authority in a common portfolio approach.
Governance and Risk Management
Adherence and support to client project and risk management processes e.g. Tech Procs / Gated Process / PRIM / RAMS etc.
Supports the Technical Authority in their approach to governance & risk
Knowledge & Skills
A technical expert in their discipline area with detailed knowledge of the engineering and technical aspects of plant for which they are responsible.
A demonstrated track record of applying advice into tangible outcomes on plant, owning tasks & projects from conception through to delivery and handover through internal or contract management of external resource.
Experience of working in teams across a geographical diverse portfolio with strong people skills & communication skills. A proven track record of high performance in a portfolio role.
A strong understanding of the wider power generation process and how their discipline fits, not just technically but also from a process safety, operational and commercial perspective.
Demonstrates the ability to deal with constantly changing priorities. Attention to detail is essential; methodical, innovative, numerate, analytical and well organised.
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, regulations and directives
